My witting about Whales

Did you know that Antarctic whales are not  fish?They are mammals that can be found in oceans all over the world.

Do you know what is a group of whales is called a pod? The male whale is called a bull,  a female is called a cow but the baby whale is called a calf. 3

Did you know that whales have big mouths and long gorbonos? They also have thick layers of blubber to keep them warm when the water gets cold. 4

Some whales have teeth but the other ones are called baleen whales. But the other whales have peg liked teeth and some don’t have any teeth at all.3

Penguins in Antarctica live in the southern oceans at the bottom of antarctica. But they don't live in the North of the word.  

 

Did you know that penguins can’t fly? When they come ashore they stand up straight and take little short steps.

In antarctica the sun doesn't rise  until summer.All the time there are gales  and the temperature drops to freezing.   

In antarctica the emperor penguins are the one of  few animals that can survive in the pack ice.

When it is cold in antarctica the penguins have a thick layer under their skin, its  called blubber it  keeps them warm during  cold blizzards.

When the penguins get  cold they have thick layers of feathers.

It can overlap the first layer to make it waterproof so they don’t freeze to death

All about Antarctic Seals

WALT We are learning to summarise the main points of a paragraph.

Seals are mammals that live in oceans all over the world.All of the seals at antarctica are non - eared. These seals have lots of blubber to keep them warm.

Seals have thick short hair on their street lined body to keep them warm.

They have flippers to help be superb swimmers.

most of the time seals are in the sea.

Seals are fast and graceful in the sea but on land they are slow and clumsy. They haul themselves when they want to have a rest. But when they want to they lay some pups.

Most of the common seals are crab eaters there are 30 million of them. And they eat krill.

Did you know that leopard  seals can’t move fast on land. So penguins are not afraid of them but under water they are very afraid seals.

When  winter comes in Antarctica the only seals that can take the. Coldness of winter

is the Wendell seal but the other seals are gone to find another place to stay.
